Stage a Planet Zoo 2 aquarium from a serviceable viewing gallery to a tunnel or multistory centerpiece with separate water and access checks.

Original design proposal: build manually and verify current requirements. No Workshop download or measured game result is claimed.

Build components

Aquarium
One independently configured tank with suitable volume, salinity and temperature
Guest route
Viewing gallery outside the tank frontage
Staff connection
Aquarium staff gate connected to the path network
Water network
Filters configured for the actual aquatic species

Planning checks

Species conditions
Check current water volume, salinity, temperature and population requirements
Care access
Staff gate remains reachable after the gallery shell is built
Visibility
Inspect window cleanliness and actual animal visibility

Best for

A first aquarium whose services can be checked before adding vertical complexity.

Avoid if

You need a measured tank volume or a verified mixed-species aquarium recipe.

How it works

External viewing keeps the initial guest route separate from the water enclosure, while staff access and water conditions can be inspected independently.

Construction priorities

Construction priorities
PriorityBuild componentsInstruction
FirstWater conditions and careConfigure the selected species’ needs before stocking
SecondViewing frontageEstablish visibility without blocking staff access
LastBuilding shellAdd the indoor gallery after the functional tank passes checks

Build order

  1. Select an aquatic species and record its current water requirements.
  2. Build the aquarium enclosure and connect its staff gate.
  3. Attach and configure the water filters; set temperature through the aquarium staff gate.
  4. Fit the actual volume and furnishings to the intended population.
  5. Move animals only after the environment checks pass.
  6. Add the external viewing route, then inspect windows and staff cleaning access.

Operating checks

Track animal welfare, water conditions, window cleanliness and maintenance separately. A clean-looking gallery does not establish that the aquarium water is suitable.

Design risks

Matching salinity alone does not prove compatibility. A tall tank or tunnel can reduce usable space or complicate access; measured values remain unknown here.

Evidence limit

Original Planet Zoo 2 Wiki design proposal, checked against Frontier’s announced systems on 13 October 2026. Not an imported Workshop creation, tested save, measured budget or guarantee of animal compatibility. Use the current in-game requirements before stocking.

Start with an aquarium you can inspect

This original plan begins with a tank and external viewing gallery. Its two planned public zones are the gallery approach and the viewing frontage. The count describes the design, not a game requirement. A guest tunnel and a multistory gallery are alternate extensions, each intended to be added after the basic aquarium’s access and animal conditions pass current checks.

Frontier confirms that aquariums need suitable water volume, salinity and temperature, as well as care access and maintenance. The shape of the gallery cannot substitute for those conditions. Read the aquarium requirement guide before choosing a species or combining animals.

The sketch separates guest viewing, staff access and water services. It does not specify an aquarium volume, window length or tunnel depth.

Care accessConnected aquarium staff gateLocation of the staff approach
ViewingActual visibility and window cleanlinessFrontage shape and guest route
Mixed speciesExplicit current compatibility informationWhether the combination is suitable at all

A freshwater and saltwater mismatch is a basic reason to reject a proposed combination. Matching salinity is only one check; it does not establish a positive cohabitation result. Use the aquatic animal overview to identify the exact species, then verify its current requirements.

Construct the aquarium enclosure and attach its staff gate. Connect that gate to the path network while it remains easy to inspect. Configure the water network for the intended animals. Frontier describes filters supporting freshwater, saltwater and brackish conditions, and temperature controlled through the aquarium staff gate.

Only after the tank’s requirements are met should you add animals and fit the external gallery. Keep access to the staff gate independent of the public viewing frontage. Observe window cleanliness as well as animal welfare: Frontier states that staff may need to dive to clean windows, and dirty aquariums can impair viewing and animal health. Maintenance also matters because barrier types offer different protection against cracks.

Add a tunnel without losing the tank brief

The tunnel variant uses the confirmed guest-gate and aquarium-tunnel feature. Build a complete route from the external approach, through the tank and back into the public network. The guest gate serves the guest route; retain the staff gate for care access.

Recheck usable space after introducing the tunnel. Do not assume that an enclosure’s outside dimensions equal the volume available to its animals after new objects and routes are placed. Record the current game’s assessment rather than deriving a species minimum from this sketch. If welfare falls, return to the tank’s actual conditions before decorating the tunnel approaches.

Use verticality as a separate phase

Frontier confirms multistory and subterranean aquariums, with tunnels at different heights. The vertical-gallery variant therefore has a real feature basis, but this article does not establish a working geometry or budget for a particular save. Add one elevation at a time and inspect its route connection. Keep a save of the original functional aquarium so an elevation problem can be isolated.

A spectacular view from one floor does not prove the other floor’s path is connected. Likewise, additional height does not automatically solve the selected species’ usable-space requirement. Compare the tank’s current information before and after the change.

Source and next decisions

The feature facts come from Frontier’s Creature Feature: Aquariums. The gallery sequence and diagnostic checklist are original editorial design proposals.
