Original design proposal: build manually and verify current requirements. No Workshop download or measured game result is claimed.

Build components

Aviary envelope
Contained barrier loop, staff gate and a generated roof
Roof structure
Pillars adjusted only after the base roof is complete
Bird requirements
Current flyable area, food, water, enrichment and nesting needs
Guest view
External viewing edge independent of the care approach

Planning checks

Flyable area
Use the aviary Info Panel and current Zoopedia requirements
Nesting
Choose nesting sites suitable for the selected birds
Cohabitation
Require explicit current support for every mixed-species proposal

Best for

A bird habitat with a clear roof and care checklist.

Avoid if

You need a universal aviary size or a confirmed mixed-bird recipe.

How it works

Start with the confirmed generated roof, then shape a ridge through pillars while rechecking actual flyable area.

Build order

  1. Choose birds from their current species entries.
  2. Build the barrier loop and connect its staff gate.
  3. Use Add Roof to cover the habitat.
  4. Fit required food, water, enrichment and nesting sites.
  5. Check flyable area and welfare for the intended population.
  6. Adjust pillar height and roof shape, then inspect those checks again.

Operating checks

Check flyable area after roof, scenery or population changes; an attractive roof profile is not itself proof of adequate space.

Design risks

Not every bird tolerates guests or every other bird. A high roof can still have insufficient usable flying space.

Evidence limit

Original Planet Zoo 2 Wiki design proposal, checked against Frontier’s announced systems on 13 October 2026. Not an imported Workshop creation, tested save, measured budget or guarantee of animal compatibility. Use the current in-game requirements before stocking.

Build the roof around the birds

This original aviary plan starts with an enclosed habitat and external viewing. Its two planned public zones are the approach and viewing frontage. The ridge roof is a design choice; the selected birds’ actual flying-space requirement determines whether the enclosure works. Neither the zone count nor the roof sketch is a game minimum.

Frontier describes aviaries as using familiar habitat construction tools with a roof added to the enclosure. Selecting a habitat and using Add Roof generates cover from nearby barrier posts. Pillars can then change the roof shape, and the player can adjust pillar height, rotation, material and convexity. That makes a staged roof design possible without treating ornamental roof pieces as functional containment.

Read the aviary size guide for the difference between floor area and usable flying space. A flat roof with enough usable space may be more suitable than a dramatic roof that leaves the actual enclosure constrained.

Establish the covered habitat first

Build the barrier loop and connect the staff gate. Generate the roof before adding an elaborate pillar profile. Fit suitable food, water, enrichment and nesting sites. Frontier identifies different nesting options for different birds, including cavity and cup nests for arboreal birds and water platforms or mud nests for other nesting preferences. Select from the current species information; this plan does not assign a generic nest to every bird.

Once birds are present, inspect their welfare and the aviary’s Flyable Area. Save the functional habitat before changing the roof profile. Adjust one set of pillars, recheck the actual readings and only then continue. The ridge and dome variants are visual compositions, not verified species-specific enclosures.

Keep walkthrough as an eligibility-dependent option

Frontier confirms that some species allow guest walkthrough. That permission does not extend to every flying bird. The eligible-species variant therefore begins with a current suitability check, then adds a guest gate and a connected public route through the aviary.

The staff gate remains necessary for the care route. Recheck usable flying space, nesting and welfare after placing the guest path. If the selected species has unknown walkthrough status, use the external viewing arrangement. Unknown is not a positive permission.

Do not turn cohabitation into a visual theme

A forest theme can make different species look appropriate together, but appearance is not compatibility evidence. Frontier says some birds can live with other birds or terrestrial animals and directs players to the Zoopedia for the actual combinations. Use the compatibility guide before introducing any additional species.

Design the base aviary for the first selected species. If you later add another animal, verify the combination and the resulting requirements. A single successful screenshot would not establish long-term welfare, social compatibility or breeding suitability.
