Planet Zoo 2 Requirements: PC Specs

Quick Answer

Minimum: i7-8700K or Ryzen 5 3600, 16 GB RAM, a listed DX12 GPU and 40 GB storage.

The FAQ recommends an SSD at minimum and requires one at recommended. Windows 10 has a compatibility caveat.

On this page

Planet Zoo 2's minimum PC requirements are an Intel i7-8700K or AMD Ryzen 5 3600, 16 GB RAM, and one of the listed DirectX 12 graphics cards: RTX 2060, RX 5600XT or Arc A750. Allow 40 GB of available storage. Windows 10 remains listed at minimum, but ongoing compatibility is not guaranteed; the recommended operating system is Windows 11.

Check your CPU, graphics card, graphics memory and storage separately. Meeting the memory figure alone does not establish that a PC meets the full specification. These are the official published requirements, checked on 22 October 2026, rather than a benchmark of your machine.

The processor brands are alternatives, as are the three graphics card brands. You do not need every GPU in a column. The Steam listing also specifies a 64-bit processor and operating system.

Minimum specification reference. The recommended tier separately requires an SSD in the FAQ and Steam listing.

RAM and VRAM are different requirements

Both tiers list 16 GB of system RAM. The graphics card has a separate VRAM figure: for example, the minimum RTX 2060 entry specifies 6 GB VRAM, while the recommended RTX 3070 entry specifies 8 GB. More system RAM does not replace the GPU's listed graphics memory requirement.

These are named hardware targets, not a ranking of every graphics card. If your GPU is absent, the list alone does not establish its equivalent performance. Laptop and integrated graphics are not assigned a separate performance tier in this specification.

SSD and Windows 10 limitations

The main table follows the official FAQ and Steam: SSD recommended at minimum, SSD required at recommended. The Epic Games listing repeats the minimum SSD recommendation but does not supply a separate recommended-tier storage-type note in the captured specification.

There is a wording difference in Frontier's PC troubleshooting article, which repeats SSD recommended under both tiers. For the recommended configuration, use the stricter SSD requirement stated in the dedicated FAQ and Steam table rather than treating the support article as confirmation that a hard drive is sufficient.

Windows 10 appears in the minimum specification with a compatibility caveat. Its presence in that column is not a promise of continuing support. Windows 11 is the operating system in the recommended column.

What the specification says about performance

Frontier gives performance guidance for a well built-up zoo: above 30 FPS at Medium settings on the minimum configuration and 30 FPS at High settings on the recommended configuration. This is the developer's stated target, not an independently measured result for your PC, resolution or save file.

The same FAQ explains that additional animals and guests increase processing demand. If changing graphics settings barely changes the frame rate, the simulation's CPU demand can be relevant; purchasing a graphics card alone is not a demonstrated fix for every slow zoo. On laptops, Frontier also points to cooling as a factor in sustained CPU speed.

Use the requirements to decide whether the machine matches the published components. Do not read them as a guarantee of 60 FPS, unrestricted zoo size or identical performance across every scenario.

Before you buy or troubleshoot

  1. Compare the full processor and GPU model names with the table, including the GPU's VRAM.
  2. Confirm the operating system, 16 GB RAM and DirectX 12 requirement, then check that the install drive has the listed 40 GB available.
  3. Check the SSD note for the tier you are comparing against. Recommended hardware does not remove the separate storage requirement.
  4. If the PC meets the specification but the game crashes or runs poorly, use a symptom-specific troubleshooting guide. Hardware eligibility alone does not identify a crash's cause.

The official FAQ also lists GeForce NOW as an option for players without high-spec hardware. That is a cloud-gaming route, with its own access conditions; it does not turn an unsupported local configuration into a native Windows installation that meets these requirements.
