Planet Zoo 2: Update 1.0.4

Quick Answer

Frontier released update 1.0.4 on 14 October 2026 for all platforms. It includes stability, DLSS/FSR, animal and blueprint changes; some behaviour issues remain under investigation.

Planet Zoo 2 update 1.0.4 was released on 14 October 2026 for all platforms, according to Frontier's official patch notes. It addresses performance and stability, Franchise issues, DLSS/FSR selection, keybindings, animal behaviour and blueprints. Some animal behaviour and creative-tool concerns remain ongoing work; the patch notes are not a claim that every reported problem is resolved.

This page summarises the changes most relevant to existing guides. Check the official notes for the complete list and your platform's installed version before retesting a symptom. Reviewed on 15 October 2026; this is a guide to version 1.0.4, not a claim that it will always be the latest update.

What should you recheck after updating?

Animal data: do not reuse an older compatibility claim blindly

The patch explicitly includes cohabitation list updates and changes involving shoal welfare and animal temperature. That matters when using an old screenshot, a launch-day checklist or an original Planet Zoo table. Reopen the current in-game Zoopedia and welfare panels before finalising mixed housing or measurements.

Our animal database uses published roster fields. The compatibility checker compares those fields; a shared biome or enclosure type is not a verified pairing. The habitat planner calculates from measurements you enter rather than inventing unverified sequel values.

Workshop and building changes

The update addresses habitat blueprints, creator profiles reached through Career Mode, and thumbnails chosen during uploads. It also corrects zoo-specific blueprints appearing inside Wildlife Reserves and blueprints exposing enrichment before the required research. If an item seems unavailable, check mode, research, installed status and browser filters before assuming the sharecode is wrong.

See the Workshop directory and installation steps for verified examples. Its four listings were recorded against their own displayed game version; we do not claim they have been imported or retested under 1.0.4.

What remains under investigation?

Frontier still identifies animal movement, enrichment alignment, erroneous escapes, frequent boxing, creative tools and Franchise stability as areas receiving attention. Record a repeatable case with the affected species or object, save context, platform and game version. A symptom continuing after the update does not prove that your save or a particular blueprint caused it.

Use Frontier's Planet Zoo 2 Issue Tracker for reports. Keep the expected result separate from the actual result and include the smallest sequence that reproduces the issue. This guide has not run a controlled before-and-after performance test, so it makes no FPS or loading-time improvement claim.

Scheduled maintenance is separate from a patch

Frontier's 14 October announcement scheduled approximately one hour of online maintenance on 15 October 2026 around 07:00 BST (06:00 UTC), with Workshop and Franchise features unavailable during that window. This is the announced schedule, not a live outage indicator. The same announcement said another update was planned for Friday; a plan does not confirm its release or contents.
