Planet Zoo 2 is available on Xbox Series X|S. You can use a gamepad or a mouse and keyboard, and the console version has a complexity meter that limits building. Frontier has no plans for a previous-generation console release, so Xbox One owners should not treat the Series X|S listing as a native Xbox One version. These platform and control details are confirmed in the official FAQ.
Check your Xbox before buying
| Your setup | What the current listing confirms |
|---|---|
| Xbox Series X or Series S | Supported Xbox console platforms |
| Xbox One | No native release announced; Frontier says there are no plans for previous-generation consoles |
| Windows PC through the Xbox store | PC is listed under supported devices, and the product carries the Xbox Play Anywhere label |
| Xbox Cloud Gaming | Listed separately from console installation; the store requires a game purchase and an eligible Game Pass plan |
The Xbox store product page is the relevant purchase listing. Check its device list and the edition in your own region before paying. A Steam purchase is a separate store purchase; do not assume it supplies the Xbox entitlement.

The device list identifies Series X|S; keyboard and mouse are also supported on console.
Choose gamepad or mouse and keyboard
A controller is supported, but it is not your only option. Frontier explicitly confirms mouse-and-keyboard support on console, and the Xbox listing includes the Console Keyboard & Mouse capability.
Choose the input method you prefer for camera movement, menus and detailed building. The official FAQ does not publish a per-device compatibility list or a complete button map, so check your connected devices and the game's current control prompts before planning around a particular shortcut.
Plan around the console complexity meter
The complexity meter is a console build cap. It matters when deciding how large or detailed a zoo to create, even if you select Sandbox for creative freedom. Sandbox does not remove this documented platform limit.
Frontier describes the meter as a tool for keeping console performance manageable. Its FAQ does not provide a universal animal count, guest count or object allowance, nor a comparison of the cap between Series X and Series S. Avoid planning a zoo around an unverified numerical limit or assuming a PC build will fit unchanged.
For a first park, establish the working zoo before committing to a very dense decorative build. That is a planning suggestion, not an official formula for how the meter is calculated.
Buying, subscriptions and online features
The US Xbox listing checked on 22 October 2026 prices the base game at $49.99 and Deluxe at $64.99, before any applicable tax or regional differences. Use the live store for your final price and the Deluxe comparison for the extra content.
The cloud-play wording is not a promise that the game is included in the Game Pass catalogue. See the Game Pass status guide for the purchase requirement. Planet Zoo 2 is also single-player: community Workshop sharing does not let two players build in the same live zoo.
